Future City Laboratory (FCL), Peking University Shenzhen  Established in December 2016, the Future City Laboratory (FCL) at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School addresses critical challenges in urban and regional spatial evolution, planning, and management against the backdrop of China’s new-type urbanization and ecological civilization construction. Leveraging the research platform of the School of Urban Planning and Design, the laboratory conducts experimental simulations, fundamental theoretical research, applied innovation, and integrated technological demonstrations. Its mission is to enhance the scientific rigor of urban planning theories and methodologies while promoting the industrialization of research achievements through academia-industry collaboration.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Build platforms for urban spatial simulation, experimental testing, decision-making emulation, and knowledge exchange to advance eco-cities, smart cities, and livable cities.

  2. Organize open research initiatives for faculty, students, and global experts, facilitating the translation of research outcomes into practical applications.

Key Research Areas

  1. Experimental observation, simulation, and forecasting of smart eco-city system dynamics.

  2. Data-driven experimental observation, simulation, and optimization of planning technology efficacy.

  3. Evaluation of urban (land) economics and (housing) policies.
